Jo Adell not only achieved this, but took it to another level. In one of the most dramatic plays of the night, he leaped into the stands and made the catch among the fans, creating an emotional impact throughout the crowd regardless of team loyalty.

Adell has been developing his defensive skills over the past five seasons with the Los Angeles Angels. He was a Gold Glove finalist in 2024, and although last season was not his strongest performance in the outfield, this game proved his true potential and played a crucial role in Los Angeles’ victory.

In the first inning, he robbed a solo home run from Cal Raleigh. Later, he repeated the feat against Josh Naylor in the eighth inning. In the ninth, J. P. Crawford, shortstop for the Seattle Mariners, believed he had tied the game with a deep drive to right field.

However, Adell sprinted toward the corner, leaped, made the catch, and fell backward into the stands. The play was reviewed and confirmed, leaving Crawford stunned, as he thought it was the perfect opportunity to tie the game.

After the game, Adell said:

“After the first one, I was really excited. When I got to the second one, which looked identical, I thought, ‘Wow, my routes are perfect tonight.’ The third one was pure effort. Ninth inning—you have to make that play. It was crazy.
 You just get there and make decisions. The ball was high enough for me to reach it. I tracked it into my glove, fell, and ended up in someone’s lap. I don’t know who it was, but it was a softer landing than I expected. The fans were just as excited as I was.”

This game will be remembered as a night where dreams were stolen in midair. The Mariners came close, but Adell’s defense changed the outcome.

The Angels secured a 1–0 victory over the Mariners.
